Nothing new in my pull file this week, so it was time for some impulse buying. In my search, I happened across Ait/PlanetLar's Proof of Concept. I remembered several bloggers having nice things to say about it (hell, Mike and Dorian even had back cover blurbs). I found the faux paste-up design of the cover amusing, too.

I would like to say, though, that I'm generally more likely to impulse buy a book when there's actually, say, a price printed on it somewhere.

I wound up instead with The Incredible Hulk #77 (the first issue of Peter David / Lee Weeks current run) and Concrete: The Human Dilemma #1. I haven't had a chance to read the latter yet, but on the former: this is the condensed version? You're kidding me, right?

I don't think anyone's going to convince me you need five pages to establish that the Hulk can rip a shark in half. Especially when the ripping is effectively off-panel, and the Hulk's kicking of ass is more dramatically and effectively established in his next scene. No, this was 22 pages of establishing shot, ending with the splash page to actually start the story. It's half an issue, tops.
