Happy Valentine's Day to all who celebrate it.

To those who don't, good luck today. May you ably avoid being accosted by too too many folk insisting you join in their religio-commercial experience.

I got a bookstore gift card for Christmas, and I've been holding off using it, largely because, yes, the Stack of Unread Shame mocks me. Having managed to make my way through a few of the denizens of the SoUS, I finally broke down and decided it was time to try another manga. As I have, really, no point of reference here, I went for recommendations: both Dorian and Johanna recommended Natsuki Takaya's Fruits Basket, so I took the plunge and picked up the first volume. Mild spoilers may follow. Cut tag, warning, yadda yadda.

I probably ran into more logistical stumbling blocks with Fruits Basket than I had with other manga, but thus far I'd say the story and characters sat best with me. I'll probably hold off a little while before getting the follow-up volumes--if only to save myself from a sudden and exponential expansion in the SoUS--but next time I've made a significant dent in the Stack, volume 2 is on the list of books to pick up.
