Finding new musicals to look up. I don't follow theatre press closely enough to really know what's out and what's getting buzz. I already wanted to try Spamalot, but now thanks to the awards show, I want Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, too.

Live theatre people are used to distractions, so that whole "playing them off" thing only encourages them to project more. They treat it like an orchestral backup, so they wind up with a punchy climax instead of a harried rush to finish.

Discovering pop entertainment folks who have real chops. While Julia Stiles seemed taxed just managing to spit out her half of her award presentation, I gotta say: go Christina Applegate. And, since I missed the show last year, go Hugh Jackman, too.

I feel like someone else has pointed this out before, but I don't remember so am claiming it as new: The Tonys win cool points for the directors not freaking out and trying to cut away before someone notices award winners kissing their same sex partners, and the award recipients feel free to thank those same partners without having to obfuscate their relationship or risk having it be some kind of scandalous news event.
