I think the new iTunes has some kind of new "thematic shuffle" setting no one's talking about. I kicked on shuffle to have music to get ready to work by, and the first three songs were:

Sell, Sell, Sell, by the Barenaked Ladies
Razzle Dazzle, James Naughton from Chicago
Hook, by Blues Traveler

Now, I certainly don't mind cynicism in my music, but it certainly seemed odd that "random" had picked three image-cynical songs in a row. But, hey, then there was a reprieve of optimism:

Anthem, from the London recording of Chess
When you Dream, by the Barenaked Ladies

Ah. See, there was hope in the iTunes yet. But, apparently, there was an internal struggle. Musings on relationships took it next, with the bitter You can Always Count on Me from City of Angels, the celebratory Under Your Spell from Once More, With Feeling and the bittersweet Seasons of Love from Rent.

I fear the iTunes is gaining sentience. If it asks me to play a game, I'm dumping it in a ravine, I tell you.
